This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to infants, children and adults.
The unit applies to educators and support staff working within an education and care setting who are required to respond to a first aid emergency, including asthmatic and anaphylactic emergencies.
This unit of competency must be updated every 3 years and the CPR component must be updated every 12 months to remain current.
1. Respond to an emergency situation
2. Apply appropriate emergency first aid procedures
3. Communicate details of the incident
4. Evaluate the incident and own performance
All First Aid units of competency are completed in 2 stages:
Stage 1 - online pre-reading and written assessment requirements via the Asthma Foundation's online learning platform 'Learn It Live It'. This can also be completed as a written test on the day.
Stage 2 - face-to-face classroom practical assessment requirement
Students are required to complete both stages to be deemed competent.
The HLTAID003 and HLTAID004 units of competency are a full day in class; therefore students are required to be in class from 9:30am – 4:00pm.
Please note, HLTAID001 is incorporated into HLTAID003 and HLTAID004.
