Description

This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines.

This unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide CPR in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

This course is also part of both the HLTAID003 Apply First Aid unit of competency and HLTAID004 Provide an Emergency First Aid Response in an Education and Care Setting unit of competency.

What is Covered

1. Respond to an emergency situation

2. Perform CPR procedures

3. Communicate details of the incident

Mode of Study

All First Aid units of competency are completed in 2 stages:

Stage 1 - online pre-reading and written assessment requirements via the Asthma Foundation's online learning platform 'Learn It Live It'. This can also be completed as a written test on the day.

Stage 2 - face-to-face classroom practical assessment requirement

Students are required to complete both stages to be deemed competent.

The HLTAID001 unit of competency runs for the morning portion of the day, therefore students are only required to be in class from 9:30am – 12:00pm.

Please note, HLTAID001 is incorporated into HLTAID003 and HLTAID004.

Language Literacy and Numeracy

Due to the form of assessment and the format of the online portion of the units, it is recommended that all candidates be competent in written and spoken English.

Any language, literacy and numeracy concerns identified upon enrolment will either be referred internally to arrange appropriate support strategies or externally for additional support services. Internal support strategies vary depending on the student’s needs. Please speak to a student advisor for more information or to find out what would be right for you.

Support Services

A wide variety of support services are available to students to assist them with completing their chosen unit of competency. If amendments to unit resources are required, this is arranged upon enrolment.

To find more information regarding what supports are available, it is recommended that candidates speak to a student advisor prior to enrolling.

Technical Requirements

To complete the online portion of the unit of competency, it is necessary for all students to have access to a computer that can play sound and has access to the internet. Due to this, students should have basic computer skills and the ability to follow instructions on how to use the online system.

It is highly recommended that students use either Google Chrome, Safari, or Firefox web browser as the online system may not be compatible with other browsers.
